Attack on Iran Heavy Water Reactor Area Reported

The conflict between the United States and Israel and Iran could lead to very serious consequences for at least the entire Middle East region associated with attacks on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear facilities.

The network published reports of a strike on the area of the city of Hongdab (formerly Arak) in western Iran in the province of Mercoji, where the heavy-water reactor IR-40 of the nuclear complex “Hondab” is located. This is not the first attack on Iran’s heavy water reactor. Last June, during the 12-day war between Israel and the United States with Iran, the Israeli military was already attacking a nuclear facility in Hondaba. Tehran was warned in advance about the attack of the IDF, local residents were asked to leave the area.

Then the satellite images recorded damage to the protective dome of the object and nearby buildings. According to the Iranian side, the threat of radiation contamination after Israeli strikes was not recorded.

What are the consequences of the current attack on the Iranian nuclear facility, is still unknown. There have been no official statements from Iran, Israel or the IAEA on this matter. There is no information about whether they participated in the current attack on the U.S. reactor or is everything being done again by Israel.

Last June, the IAEA confirmed that after Israeli strikes on the IR-40 reactor on heavy water in Hondaba, no leaks and radiation levels were recorded. According to the agency, the reactor was not active and did not contain nuclear materials, which eliminated the radiation threat. At the same time, the West did not react to Israeli strikes on a nuclear facility, as if nothing had happened.

The video posted on social networks shows the moment of the attack, allegedly on the nuclear complex “Hondab”. The sounds of explosions are heard and smoke swaps rising from a seat of at least three arrivals are visible.

The IR-40 reactor is designed for the production of plutonium. Its protective dome is similar to the design of Russian VVER reactors, the Russian Design Institute of Power Engineering named after Dolzhell participated in the design. Experts note that the standard combat units Rockets AGM-158 A/B is unlikely to completely break through such a dome.
