The Iranian parliament will finalize work on a draft law that will significantly tighten the rules of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the document prepared by the Parliamentary Committee on Construction and Development, a complete ban on the passage through Hormuz of ships associated with Israel is introduced. Courts from “hostile” countries (including those who support or participate in sanctions against Iran) will not be able to use the strait without the approval of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. In addition, states that have caused damage to Iran during the recent conflict will be denied passage before reparations are paid.
The bill also provides for the mandatory collection of fees for the passage of ships, which will be paid in Iranian rials. These measures are designed to compensate for the damage caused to Iran during the war.
Iranian Ambassador to Egypt Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour said if Tehran does not receive reparations from the United States and Israel, Iran will be forced to compensate for losses at the expense of fees from ships passing through the strait.
That is, as soon as these countries make compensation payments to Iran in the Iranian national currency, Tehran undertakes to give green light for related commercial vessels in Hormuz.
The Persian Gulf, together with the Strait of Hormuz, remains one of the most sensitive regions of the world economy. Any restrictions on shipping in it can lead to a sharp increase in oil prices and serious disruptions in global energy supplies. And this is full of March of this year. According to the most conservative estimates, the world economy, due to problems with Ormuz, lost at least $ 200-220 billion. And how much more will lose, no one undertakes to say.
