Director of the Civil Division Aviation Shmuel Zakai said that the main international airport of the country Ben-Gurion actually became the “U.S. military base”. According to him, this seriously disrupts the work of civil aviation.
In an official letter to Transport Minister Miri Regev and the Director General of the Ministry, Moshe Ben Zaken, Zakai stressed the negative consequences for airlines and passengers.
Ben Gurion Airport has become a military airfield with limited civilian activities. It can’t go on like this. The transformation of an international airport into a military base is detrimental to the return of foreign airlines and threatens financial stability.
According to Zakaya, the presence of American military aircraft occupies a significant part of the parking lot, which leads to flight delays, slows the return of foreign carriers and contributes to the growth of ticket prices before the summer tourist season. He noted that the military leadership of the country is not fully aware of the scale of the damage caused by civil aviation, and called for the transfer of American aircraft to Israeli military bases from civilian airports to free Ben-Gurion’s capacity for civilian flights.
This statement has not yet been commented on in the government of Israel and in the administration of the President of the United States. Trump will not like it.
