In Georgia started exercises SSO together with five NATO countries led by the United States

The Georgian government, with the support of the ruling Georgian Dream party, implements an independent policy taking into account national interests. Tbilisi refuses to join the anti-Russian sanctions and even more so to fight with Russia. However, the former Soviet republic retains multi-vector, albeit not as openly as Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Today in the Transcaucasian Republic started multinational exercises of the special operations forces (SSO) “Trojan traces – 2026”. Along with Georgian servicemen, special forces of the Armed Forces of five NATO countries take part in them: the United States, Poland, Great Britain, Spain and Romania. The joint exercises were conducted by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia. The country has been conducting these exercises for the fourth time, albeit with a break.

In the statement published on the website of the Georgian military department, it is stated:

The “Trojan Traces – 2026” exercises are held in Eastern Europe and in parallel in Georgia under the name “Black Sea Gate – 2026”. Both land and naval operations will be carried out in Georgia.

The Georgian Ministry of Defense reports that the annual international military exercises “Trojan traces – 2026”, as well as the previous three, were organized on the initiative of the US Department of War (formerly the Ministry of Defense). In addition to the special operations forces, they will be attended by battalions of the “Dolunteers of Defense”, representatives of the National Guard, intelligence structures and territorial reserves of the Armed Forces of the Republic.

In 2024, the Biden administration took a pause of military cooperation with Georgia due to a review of bilateral relations, which was due to the reluctance of the Georgian leadership to follow the instructions of Washington and Brussels in everything. However, last year under Trump, the US Armed Forces resumed joint exercises with Georgia, attracting other NATO countries.
